Frequently Asked Questions

Question #1: How can I utilize my benefits before they run out on January 1st?

Answer:

Contact your Insurance provider to get your balance.  This can also be done online (based on your Insurance provider).

Question #2: How can combinations of treatment help with treating my injuries:

  • Chiropractic and massage therapy
  • Physiotherapy and acupuncture

Answer:

Key benefits of common combinations of treatment are:

Chiropractic and Massage Therapy:

  • Getting a massage before chiropractic treatment can increase its effectiveness by loosening the muscles and improving flexibility’.

Alternatively, having a massage after chiropractic treatment can loosen muscles and prevent them from throwing your back out of “alignment.” As such, a massage can extend the positive effects of a chiropractic adjustment.

In sum, both treatments work well together and have a better outcome than if done in isolation.

Physiotherapy and Acupuncture:

Physiotherapy treatment, when combined with acupuncture, helps reduce pain/inflammation and restore mobility, functions and physical independence to maximize recovery or the healing of the injury.

Question #3:  What are the uses/benefits of:

  • custom orthotics
  • braces
  • compression socks and hosiery
  • TENS machines

Answer:

Key uses/benefits are:

Custom Orthotics

Custom orthotics are used to help with pain that is felt on your feet, ankles, knees or hip. They are used to offset painful areas in your feet, correct problems with walking patterns and help with ankle or foot stability.

Common conditions include Plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, neuroma and heel pain are common conditions, with “adult acquired flat foot” on the rise.

Custom orthotics, along with physical therapy have been shown to be beneficial in the treatment for the overuse of the tibialis posterior muscles (which supports the arches of our feet).

Braces

Braces (custom or off-the-shelf) are used to limit the movement of targeted body parts to help with recovery.  In addition, it helps to reduce the chance of re-injury.

We carry an array of braces from recognized brands as DonJoy, Bauerfeind, EPX and Corflex – just to name a few. Our experienced staff is available to assist you in finding the right fit for your brace.

Most insurance plans cover these braces with a prescription from your family doctor.

Compression Socks and Hosiery

Compression socks and stockings are commonly used by people with varicose veins, those who experience swelling in the lower legs and ankles, are diabetic or are at risk of a blood clot when travelling.

Compression hosiery are available in knee high, mid-thigh and full pantyhose lengths.  These are designed to decrease swelling and improve circulation.  Our certified fitters can help you decide on the product that is right for you.  We carry brands such as Sigvaris, Juzo, Therafirm and Jobst.

TENS Machines

TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) machines, which are both battery operated and portable, are designed to help with pain management.

Chiropractors and physiotherapists often use these machines as part of their patient’s in-clinic treatment and recommend them for patients to use at home when they unable to visit our clinic for treatment.

Orthopaedic Pillows

Orthopaedic pillows are designed to help with proper head to shoulder posture when sleeping.  This will reduce the amount of tossing and turning, which will result in a good night’s sleep.  We carry a suite of pillow types, to cater to different needs.

Question #4: What can I do for my increasing back pain due to increased outdoor work?

Answer:

If your pain is localized to your upper or lower back or feels dull and achy and you have limited movement, we recommend you take a break to let the pain subside.  If your pain continues or worsens, we suggest that you rest (for at the least the remainder of that day) to allow your body to recover.

If you experience a burning sensation, limitations in movement and/or radiating pain on your arms or legs, stop your activity immediately.  Put ice on the affected area for 10 minutes to decrease inflammation.

If the pain persists, we recommend that you visit one of our chiropractors or physiotherapists to aid in  your recovery.  Our health professionals can provide customized treatment involving hands-on treatment to facilitate pain management and inflammation reduction to restore your back to its pre-injury state
